6 New Years Resolutions Your Closet will Thank You for!

“I Like my Money Right where I can see it, Hanging in My Closet.” Carrie Bradshaw

If you want a more organized, color coded and mess free closet, maybe setting resolutions are the key! Many times we set to organize, and grow and self care and all those amazing things that we should strive for in the new year, but this year it was important to set goals for my closet! and if you’re like me, living in a city sized apartment, closet organization is not just a short term pinterest search, you’ve created an entire board focused on small living/closet organization that you refer to very frequently.

Over the years, I’ve tried many different closet hacks, different organization hauls and did every cleaning every season. But what I’ve learned from other savvy bloggers and pinterest pin and mistakes I’ve made are a few goals for your closet is key. Having too many intentions can create confusion and even more of a mess of your prized closet. Here are a few tips I’d suggest for your “New Year New Closet” Resolutions!

  1. Know your style. We can all adapt and switch it up every now and then, hell thats our superpower as women! Yet having too many clothes that are outside of your style, that you wear once or twice a year are clogging your space! Create some space for switching up your style, but don’t let it take over your closet.
  2. Create an organization system that works for you. Not every style fits all. I color coordinate my calendar based on work, personal, social, etc. I realized that is my organization style. So I took that to my closet, and set a plan for my closet. I found out, it actually works! And it makes finding clothes to wear easier!
  3. Try a cleaning schedule. I know you heard of the spring cleaning or winter cleaning purge everyone goes on. If you’ve never tried a spring cleaning hack, you definetly should try it! Putting away clothes that don’t  fit the season, or throwing away clothes that just don’t fit. Seasonal cleaning could be your thing!
  4. Invest in closet storage. Don’t over indulge on the storage because trust me it’s easy to overspend. But investing in some simple storage such as closet cubes or a shoe hanging rack can give you more space to organize and it can help hids a mess…
  5. Don’t splurge on sales. Ok, well yes the sale is amazing, but is there really space in your closet for the 45th white cami? Probably not, but when there is a sale we tend to overbuy because its so cheap – I am looking for a shoppers anonymous for this very reason. Yet what I realized is not only does it break my pockets but it clogs up my closet with another garment that may get 2-3 wears over a years time.
  6. Love what you have before you buy something new. When i was rummaging through my closet there were so many things I realized I hated! Why did I even buy this shirt? I have literally nothing to go with it! Then I thought buying all new clothes was the answer. What I realized is even if you buy more that doesn’t mean you will like what’s new. Learn to love and pair what you have in your closet before you go on a new shopping mission. You might just find a go to outfit!

Hope these tips held you as much as they have helped me! Spring cleaning here we come!
